This role requires working in a team atmosphere and being able to function in a fast-paced environment. Full-time front-of-house positions can expect 30 – 35 hours per week, on average. Full-Time front of house team members should be available all year, with an open schedule, and should be prepared to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is full-time, 5-days-a-week, with at least 1 weekend day required; no nightly shifts. Ability to work flexible schedule including some weekends & holidays. Must be working at least 15 hours/week in summer for retention in our staff. Since Cone Training is thorough and done with the intention of keeping employees more than a single season, you need to be able to work for an entire season.

The Cone does not typically work around a second job, since that is not fair to our scheduling staff and our other employees. Our emphasis in hiring new crew members is on hiring people that can be on call for shoulder seasons — Spring and Fall — in order to keep the shop running when our older, college-age kids are out. We have hired a number of older team members – parents, or retired, or just people looking for part-time employment — and they are helping keep our store running. During the summer, several of the college-age team members who worked for us in high school returned to the team, and they work all the hours we are allowed.

Under Massachusetts state labor law, people under the age of 16 are allowed to work until 7pm, so we have to ensure that we have enough older crew members to cover our busiest evening shifts. New applicants who cannot work in the spring (before May 1) and the fall (after Labor Day) are at a severe disadvantage when there are other applicants available during those times. Weekend shifts are simply too busy for us to train new employees, and you would be swamped with lines of demanding customers. This position will require you to move between being the cashier, greeting customers, preparing coffee, and serving ice cream.
